Need to ship a 16" AR upper

Postby SirSqueeboo » Sun Sep 06, 2015 10:30 pm

Any suggestions on how to package it? I can't find any mailing tubes that it will fit in. I found one company that makes specialty boxes, but I don't need five of them.

(I'm in Texas, so digging through the Shaw's dumpster wouldn't be applicable. :D )

Did you try a Mailboxes Etc, or UPS store? They usually have a good selection of boxes, and they can make one up if they don't have the right size. It does cost though.

For uniquely shaped items that I ship, I usually make my own box with a larger box, a box cutter, and authorized packaging tape. I usually make them so all the cardboard markings are on the inside of my new package. When I receive packages I usually save the styrofoam peanuts and protective packing material for future use.

The typical AR upper is pretty durable for normal shipping. I've received several from Ares Armor, Midway USA, Palmetto State Armory, AR15 Depot, etc. Some were packaged quite well and some were OK. I've never had a problem on the receiving end.

Good luck.

What diameter tube would you need? Might be able to use a plotter paper spool. Staples might have some for free.

U-haul might have what you need. Or something you could cut to make work:

Or
http://www.uhaul.com/MovingSupplies/Shipping-boxes-supplies/Shipping-boxes/6-x-6-x-36-Box?id=8383

And it looks as though you can order them individually.
