I'm a shotgun owner now

Postby Thib » Tue Oct 20, 2015 4:57 pm

Yup, finally pulled the trigger... Literally.

I never had the need, I fired a slug gun once years ago and that was all. Wallum just opened up a sporting clays course and I was invited to go and share my friends 1100 with him. Holy crap was that fun!

So off to the gun shop I went! Emerged with a Beretta A300. I figure once the rumored 3 gun shoots start at Wallum, I'll be in the market for something to fit that discipline as well.

I think I just come up with reasons to buy new firearms.

If you've never tried Sporting Clays... Try it, its like golf with a shotgun!

Congratulations with the scatter gun.
Keep us posted on the 3-gun at Wallum.
Is this an in-house 3-gun style competition where you have your own rules or is it a sanctioned style shoot? If you are into this, you should check out the "3-gun nation" show on Wednesday nights. I don't remember the channel, but it is on one of the Outdoor channels.

I think it will be "in house" rules based on one of the organizations rules to start. It's all new to us, so we have brought in someone who is well versed in 3 gun to help.

I will post up more info when I get it.

Good idea on bringing in someone who has some experience with 3-gun since safety is critical and it is easy to make a mistake especially if many shooters do not have any experience with this kind of shooting, especially if all three guns will be used on the same stage.
You can check out the rules in multi-gun (USPSA's version of 3-gun) so you don't re-invent the wheel with respect to safety and how to pre-load for a stage etc. Check out Section 3.

I did the practical shotgun up there before I had to fly out later that night, hell of fun. When I am home and have time, I have been dremeling the feeding port and other mods to get my 1100 to run better. I can't justify a saiga 12, yet.....

R and R Targets makes a badass Saiga, but they are expensive. There were always some guys that show up with Saiga's (one guy has one from R and R Targets) at New Bedford Rod and Gun Club, but there were a lot more problems with those than other semi autos. The culprit were always the magazines and it is apparently hard to find good magazines.
I wish I had bought a Saiga a few years ago since they are real expensive now.

Century Arms have some reasonable converted Saigas, but I don't know how they compare to the original. Anyone here have any experience with them?

This is from Wallum's facebook page:

Halloween Day, October 31st we are having our first intro to the 3 gun shoot!!!...There will be a short seminar, and demo on the event, then all who want to shoot, and have their guns handy can do so! This is a free event, come check it out at 10am on the 31st of this month!! Any questions on this 3 gun shoot can be addressed by Tim Burdick @ tbtreeguy@gmail.com

Thib, sporting clays is my favorite next to 5 stand. I know Wallum just opened theirs up, and it needs some tweeking. If you have never been to Addieville, its definitely worth the trip. I will be shooting Peacedale in a couple of weeks, if you want to tag along you are more than welcome.
