This bill already had a hearing, was there an amendment on it?
Senate Bill No. 650
BY Goodwin, Nesselbush, Crowley, Morgan
ENTITLED, AN ACT RELATING TO CRIMINAL PROCEDURE - DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
PREVENTION ACT {LC1207/1} (Establishes a domestic violence prevention fund which would
financed by an additional fee on marriage licenses and would have as its primary purpose, the
prevention of domestic and dating violence.)
03/11/2015 Introduced, referred to Senate Judiciary
03/13/2015 Scheduled for hearing and/or consideration
03/17/2015 Committee recommended measure be held for further study
06/09/2015 Scheduled for consideration

Their logic is interesting in which those that wish to get married are fiscally punished, even though you don't have to be married to be subject to domestic violence.

Also doesn't this bill also need to go to the finance committee as well?

Yes, it already had a hearing and although it is not a "gun" bill I figured I'd post it because of what happened last year. I do have a problem with "penalizing" those who wish to get (happily) married by imposing a fee because of a few bad apples. Most importantly, the RICAGV try to change this bill at the last minute so that they would get the money and not the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence as the bill states.
I also think that the administration of this fee will cost more than what the fee is...

I heard about that as well what the RICAGV dried to do and it really pissed off almost everyone involved.

the fee is $46 in addition to what the town is charging to issue a license, so this is pretty high I think... All you single guys better get married soon. You can spend the $46 you save by not paying this fee on ammo instead..

This bill is highly offensive to me. This bill sends the message that if you get married, you are going to abuse your partner. Essentially this bill is stating that marriage is the cause of domestic violence. WTF! Is there any resistance in the House or Governor's office to stop this? Also doesn't this need to go to Finance as well?

I agree that it is offensive to those who are getting married.
The bill doesn't need to Finance and it already passed in the Senate.
03/11/2015 Introduced, referred to Senate Judiciary

03/13/2015 Scheduled for hearing and/or consideration (03/17/2015)

03/17/2015 Committee recommended measure be held for further study

06/09/2015 Scheduled for consideration (06/11/2015)

06/11/2015 Committee recommends passage

06/16/2015 Placed on Senate Calendar (06/18/2015)

06/18/2015 Senate read and passed

Last year it was stopped in the House, so there is still a chance to contact your House Rep. to voice your concern/disgust of this bill.
There was a big sign in front of the Senate posted by the RICADV to support the bill (and the same in the House I believe).
