S503 and S520 being heard again tomorrow!

Announcements about upcoming legislation in RI and nationally.

S503 and S520 being heard again tomorrow!

Postby newportri » Thu Jun 25, 2015 2:16 am

After being held for further study in committee, these bills are now being pushed through to attempt to get a floor vote. These bills are disguised as domestic violence bills, but are really gun confiscation bills as well as a lifetime ban on exercising the Second Amendment for a misdemeanor. Please contact the senators and ask them to oppose these bills.
I put the email addresses into a string to it is easy to contact all of them.

S520 is dead again (at least for now)!
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — From the unexpected revival of a gun-control bill to the future of publicly-funded alternative schools, high controversy bills hung in the balance as state lawmakers sputtered their way to the anticipated Thursday night finish of this year's legislative session.
The gun bill didn't go far.
The Senate Judiciary Committee scheduled a 2 p.m. vote on the original version of the bill to prohibit anyone convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence from purchasing, carrying, transporting or having in his/her possession any firearm.
While there is an exclusion for “petty misdemeanors,” such as refusal to relinquish a telephone, the restrictions would apply to cases of simple assault, willful trespass and vandalism charged under the state’s domestic violence law.
A reworked version of the bill — known in the State House as a "Sub A" — began circulating. It would have limited the gun-possession prohibition to "a period of 10 years following the date of conviction."
But the alternative was never introduced. The committee chaired by Sen. Michael McCaffrey voted instead to hold the bill for "further study,'' which at this late point can mean it will not be seen again this session.

The Bloomberg funded folks were playing dirty again telling legislators about a sub A bill that they wanted them to vote on, but then they don't formally introduce it and expect them to vote on the original bill  Thank you McCaffrey for making the decision on the bill that was introduced and the public had a chance to testify on!
Hopefully McCaffrey don't let them introduce the sub A this late in the game.

Thank God they are done assaulting our freedoms and rights for now. A brief respite, but they will be back soon enough to make our lives miserable.

I was told that in Smithfield the school committee was told that today 18 year old students could get a pistol permit and bring their handgun to school... It is unbelievable the lies these people are telling to get support.. I suggest everyone contact their own school department and ask them if they were contacted by supporters of the resolution and bill and what they were asked.
