Suppressors and Short Barrled Rifles(SBR) in RI

Postby rohardi » Wed Jan 28, 2015 9:08 pm

In the state of Rhode Island, One can not own or possess a Suppressor or Short barred Rifle (SBR) We are in the overwhelming minority on these areas. In 40 of the 50 states, citizens can legally own suppressors provided the suppressor is registered to with the ATF and that person pays a $200 tax for the stamp. In 44 out of the 50 states, citizens can own a Short Barreled Rifle. Who would be interested in working to change these laws? RI state Sen Frank Ciccione introduced Senate bill S2933. This bill would legalize position and ownership of a suppressor by A. law enforcement Members, B. those licensed under 11-47-11. This bill died last year. While this does not open up ownership to everyone, it opens the door to possibly opening up ownership to everyone. We could also look at adding an exemption to the ownership of SBRs by persons licensed under 11-47-11 and attempt to open that up to everyone down the road. Sen. Ciccione said he would like people to speak in favor of a bill if he reintroduces one. would anyone here be interested?

Info on last years bill.
