Ordinances are being drafted and re-drafted to bring Warwick BPS into compliance with State law, and make the city "shall issue" as it should be. Nothing that's ready to be made public yet, but it's being worked on. Hoping for a better turnout when the package goes up for a vote early in 2015.

Legislation is being introduced THIS WEDNESDAY!!! It will force the Board of Public Safety to follow RIGL 11-47-11 as a “Shall Issue” system as designated in the law. It will be introduced in committee at 6pm on Wednesday 1/21, where the general public will have the opportunity to testify on behalf of it.

If you are a Warwick resident or business owner, please consider coming to city council chambers in support of this legislation and speak in support of it. If you are unable to attend, please take a moment to e-mail your Councilperson (link below) BEFORE Wednesday and let them know you support the Second Amendment as well as the legislation to “fix’” the broken CCW permitting system.

Talk about a step in the right direction for once. It appears from the proposal that they will follow 11-47-11 as laid out in the law. Hopefully they will follow the state law's fee as well.

The fee was addressed last year, also by Councilwoman Vella-Wilkinson, in what is now Sec 18-13 of the City ordinances. Signed by Mayor Avedisian on 10/22/2014. BPS are limited to charging $40.00 in total, and only on issuance of a permit. They have amended the application to reflect this.

On Monday, March 16 at 7 PM, this will once again be going to the city Council floor, this time for a vote.

We need any and all Warwick residents to attend. This council meeting also has an open microphone session where, if you so choose, you can speak to the city Council in support of this legislation. If you are unable to attend, and please take the time to reach out to your city Council person, and let them know that you are strongly in support of this legislation, and would suggest that they vote favorable on it.

This is going to be a huge step, with Warwick leading the charge to force other municipalities to follow Rhode Island state law, and accepted caselaw on RIGL11–47–11

Please come out and support the cause!

Thanks for the update.
I don't agree that you should have to take a 4 hours class to exercise a constitutional right.
