Thoughts on the XDS 3.3" 45ACP?

Postby shovel1966 » Thu Jun 11, 2015 3:20 pm

I have been kicking around the idea of purchasing a Springfield Armory XD-S in .45acp with a 3.3"bbl. I am a big Glock fan, and have shot several XDs and XDMs over the past few years. I like what I see and didn't have any complaints when shooting them, but I still go back to Glock.
I am fully aware that there are people who love their XDs as much as I love my Glocks so now I want to get an XD myself. I am leaning towards this model because I do want to the option for easy concealment.

Do any of you have any thoughts or opinions on this model?

I have an XDs that I carry just about every day. It is a great gun for concealment. Because of it's size and weight it has a bit of recoil & beats my hand up if I put too many rounds through it at the range however, If I really need it, it will be a quick encounter with few rounds fired so I won't really mind if it beats me up a little. I don't know where you are in the state, but I am down in South County & would be happy to get together with you to go over it if you'd like.

I have shot one before. As MM2 stated, it is quite taxing on the hands.

I'm located in Portsmouth and a member of Tiverton Rod and Gun Club. I read an online review yesterday that said you won't mind the "cheeze grater" checkering on the XDS grip if you "enjoy grasping a handfuls of razor blades." The reviewer said that "a good squeeze of the handle left his fingers and palm with a waffle-like imprint that did not fade for several minutes."

I am really not afraid of the above opinions as it will not be one of my "300 rounds at the range" guns.

I like .45acp and used to carry a Kimber 4" Tactical Pro II that I still own, but now want to switch to a smaller lighter piece. Not sure if it will be the XDS, but still want to get one.

I usually keep it down to about 20 rds when I practice on the range with it.

I am a glock fanboy, but got sick of waiting for a single stack 9mm from them. I have the XDs 3.3 in 9mm and love it. I know your post was regarding 45, but the 9 is nice to shoot and in my opinion is a close to a glock as you will get.

Thanks for your thoughts and opinions. Nothing I've seen, heard, or read so far has turned me away from the XDs. Think I will give her a try. Will most likely get one within the next 30 days. Thanks again.

I know you are up in Portsmouth but, if you don't mind a little ride I'd be happy to run out to the range with you in Bradford & let you run some rounds through mine so you can see how you like it.

I picked it up on the 6th of July and it has been my every day carry gun for the past month. I carry with the 5 round mag installed and carry a spare 7 round mag. I have shot over 250 rounds of several different profiles without an issue. 200gr LSWC, 185gr plated round nose, 230gr FMJ, and 230gr JHP. I like the operation, the weight & balance, the takedown method, and quite a bit more about this single stack. I do think the checkering profile on the grip is a bit aggressive, but I don't shoot it for hours at a time at the range. After one month of testing, It looks like this will officially replace my Glock 27 as daily carry. Good job to Springfield Armory on this one.
