AR Stoner 300 AAC upper

Postby newportri » Thu Nov 17, 2016 2:13 am

After shooting a 300AAC this weekend I have been considering getting one myself. I noticed that MIdwayUSA have a sale on this one:
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/450438/ar-stoner-ar-15-a3-upper-receiver-assembly-300-aac-blackout-16-barrel-with-15-m-lok-handguard
There are no specs on the BCG so I don't really know how good a deal it is. I find it strange that it is a 16" barrel and it says it has a pistol length gas system :? Is that a typo or what?

The pistol gas tube is so it can run suppressed, sub sonic loads. What's fun with the black out load is that it uses .223 brass. If your handy you can build it yourself for much less.

If you go that route, get a 14.5" barrel and permantly attache the muzzle device to it so it's 16" and you have a really maneuverable home defense rifle.

I did a quick "budget" spec and here is what I came up with:

Barrel: $90

Handguard: $100-200

Stripped upper: $50 (Anderson)

BCG: $119 (PSA)

Misc items: $50

Total: $359 the cheapest

It's fun! Mine ran about $375.

I'm expecting 1000 pieces of converted once-fired LC brass in the near future, I bought a bunch of W296, and am looking forward to doing some loading.

I saw that. :) I finally zeroed mine at 100 yards and am very happy.

Hopefully we'll see prices fall as panic buying subsides.

I plan to continue trying to attract new shooters to the sport, though. One never knows...

I was really disappointed with Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals this year. I expected more overstock that dealers had pulled in to mark up if Trump didn't win and now they were looking to unload it.
