Shipped!!! Woo Hoo!!

Postby shovel1966 » Wed Oct 02, 2013 11:50 am

Good news for me. I just received an e-mail from Cabela's to inform me that the 8lb jug of Alliant Unique has shipped to me today. I placed the order on 13 June when the website said this powder was in stock (apparently it wasn't) I'm just happy to say that I should be receiving it this weekend. I wasn't close to being out of powder, but it's nice to have more than enough BEFORE you need it.

Thank you, Don. This powder works well for most hangun calibers I reload for and 8lb will last me quite a while.

How many rounds can be made with 8lbs of powder?

I've thought about getting into reloading but I don't think I shoot near enough (weekend plinker) to justify the purchase cost right now.

8 lbs = 56,000 grains

That being said, let's use a 9mm round taking 4.2 grains for an example. That's (counts on fingers) 13,333 rounds.

Obviously I didn't look up load data or know if its meant for rifle, but the conversion is 7000 grains per lb.

There's a handy chart for per pound conversion.

I usually load 9mm with 115gr FMJ from Precision Delta over 6.1gr of Unique and get outstanding results from a compact Glock. With this recipe I probably won't get quite 13,XXX rounds from my 8lb, but it will be a long time before I need more Unique.

I have the opposite issue... I use Berry's 147gr over 3.5 of Titegroup for my steel rounds. That goes a long way with 8 lbs!
