Weight reduction

Postby CTSixshot » Tue May 09, 2017 7:05 pm

Fired off some odds and ends in 9x19mm this afternoon. For ha ha's, I weighed six mt cases of aluminum @ 132.5 grains and six assorted mt brass cases @ 377.0 grains. Brass cases are almost three times as heavy as the aluminum variety. That means 5.82 pounds less weight while carrying 1000 aluminum-cased rounds in your pockets. How 'bout that!

Not as a rule, but I've been experimenting with some loads to see how long before they fail. I suspect the primer pockets will be too loose before anything else.

I would be more concerned with head separation. Especially if shooting out of a gun without a fully supported chamber.

Too much free brass laying around for me to play with aluminum.

I suppose you can also shed a few ounces by loading a lighter bullet, too...

i carry Liberty Civil Defense 9MM. a full mag of 12 weighs less than half that of a full mag with lead. makes a huge difference when you carry daily.

Yes, the non-lead bullets go even lighter.
