CMP 1911

Postby newportri » Sat Oct 03, 2015 1:38 am

Some of you might have seen this email today about the status of the 1911 CMP status, but I am posting here anyway since I know there are some here that are very interested in this.
The legislation on the 1911 pistols has passed the House. The Senate plans to take it up next week. If it passes, then it will head to the President's desk. If signed, we will meet with the Army to develop procedures. All of this will take time. We have no further information. When information becomes available we will communicate with our customers.

From the CMP:

An update on the 1911’s…IT HAS PASSED THE SENATE!
The legislation has passed both the House and Senate. It will now head to the President’s desk for signature. If signed, we will meet with Army to develop procedures. All of this will take time. We have no further information. When information becomes available we will communicate with our customers.
Thank you,
Mark Johnson
Chief Operating Officer

Still, POTUS has in the past stated that he doesn't believe that individual citizens should have firearms. This could well be veto fodder.

Any idea what the votes were in the two chambers? Is it enough to override a veto?

Awful timing for this but I'll keep my fingers crossed.

It'd be nice to have something available through CMP besides Garands (and ammo, bayonets, etc) Why they ever removed the restriction on the number of guns you could buy is beyond me, other than the fact that there are those that don't want them in business any more. Their entire inventory dried up within a year or so. Carbines, 1917's, 03's... gone.

Does POTUS have to sign the bill, or is it like in RI that a bill becomes law 3 days after it lands on the Governor's desk even if the Governor does not sign it and as long as it is not vetoed?

An update on the 1911 pistols. The revised NDAA has passed the House and Senate. It is on its way to the President's desk for signature. We have no further information at this time.
